What is a Certified Pool Operator?

The National certification teaches pool professionals how to properly maintain their pool in accordance with state regulations and industry standards. At National Pools of Roanoke, our expert instructors train aquatic staff to manage mechanical system operations, maintenance, chemical treatments, and the filtration processes for a variety of aquatic facilities.

General Information About the CPO® Certification Program

• Course Format:
  • Participate in a two-day class (14-16 hours) taught by a certified instructor, or
  • Enroll in our blended format which combines the online Pool Operator Primer™ with one day of Pool Operator Fusion™ class instruction.
• Curriculum Includes:
  • Pool and spa chemistry
  • Testing and treatment protocols
  • Filtration and routine maintenance
  • Operation of automatic feeding equipment
  • Compliance with government regulations
• Examination:
  • The program concludes with an open-book written examination.
• Certification Validity:
  • The CPO certification remains valid for five years.

Duration & Format:
This option is delivered as a two-day class, covering 14-16 hours of instruction. It features a dynamic, in-person setting that promotes direct interaction between the instructor and fellow students.

Curriculum:
The course is based on the NSPF® Pool & Spa Operator™ Handbook and local codes, ensuring that you learn the essential knowledge and techniques required for effective pool and spa operations.

Examination:
The program concludes with an open-book written exam that, upon passing, leads to certification.

Course Components:

• ONLINE Primer™:
  An online training program that covers the 18 chapters of the NSPF® Pool & Spa Operator™ Handbook. Students receive six months of access to the Pool Operator Primer course, allowing multiple reviews of the material. Successful completion earns a Record of Completion.
• 1-Day Fusion™ Classroom Class:
  Following the ONLINE Primer™, students attend a one-day in-person Pool Operator Fusion™ class at National Pools. This classroom session is designed as an economical and convenient way to achieve CPO Certification and is especially recommended for those already certified.

Format:
This blended learning option combines the flexibility of online instruction with the benefits of hands-on classroom training.

Registration:
Sign up for the blended class using the form on this page. Students must present a Pool Operator Primer™ Record of Completion and then successfully complete the Fusion™ class to earn their CPO® Certification.

Certification Pathway:
Upon completing both components—the ONLINE Primer™ and the Fusion™ class—students will earn their CPO® Certification.
